While we strive to make every amenity available to you at our vibrant senior living campus, we know that the Yakima Valley offers a wealth of resources for seniors. Whether you’re planning ahead, navigating a life change, or helping a loved one, Yakima has a rich network of services built for older adults. Here’s an overview of places you can turn to get help in Yakima.
Aging and Long-Term Care Southwest Washington
If you are looking for assistance in Yakima County, the office of Aging and Long-Term Care is a great place to start. As our local designated Area Agency on Aging, ALTC Southwest Washington offers a variety of services for older adults and their caregivers. They can help connect you to evidence-based health and wellness interventions, exercise programs, legal assistance, transportation, and even help with caring for your feet and toenails. Some programs require participants to meet financial eligibility terms, while others are free or donation based.
Yakima Parks and Recreation
The parks department is not just for the little ones! The Harman Center at Gailleon Park, opened in 2004, is the center of a bevy of senior activities and offerings. Residents age 60 and older can meet up for coffee, participate in artistic endeavors, attend support groups, or join fitness activities such as pickleball and Zumba.
The computer lab, jam sessions, support groups, and blood pressure checks are free. Other activities range from less than a dollar to $7.50 for Zumba classes, making the Harman Center one of Yakima Valley’s best bang for the buck.
But that’s not all. The Harman Center staff also arranges day trips around the Pacific Northwest, as well as longer excursions.

People for People
People for People is a non-profit organization that employs Community Resource Specialists who will connect older adults to community-based care coordination, transportation services, and other community resources. They also run a Meals on Wheels program and have community dining options for hot food with a side of socialization.
Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities operates Senior Hands, a program that pairs volunteers with older members of the community who need services. These volunteers can provide companionship, rides to appointments, help with household chores, or assistance with grocery shopping or other errands.
Salvation Army Yakima Corps
The Yakima Salvation Army has a free food pantry for community members of all ages. They also organize community meals, offer educational opportunities, and adult day opportunities for older adults.
Yakima’s network of senior resources is wider than most people realize—and these organizations often work together, referring clients to one another and sometimes sharing the same spaces. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s okay. Start anywhere. Call the Aging and Long-Term Care office, drop by the Harman Center, or reach out to People for People. The right person will point you in the right direction. And if you’d like help thinking through your options for senior living specifically, our team is always happy to have that conversation — no pressure, no obligation, just a friendly voice who knows this community well.
